Here are a few of our most frequently asked questions.
SEO is a long-term strategy and there are numerous criteria that come into play and determine how long it takes to see increased search visibility, of which the most important are content, inbound links and competition. Once we’ve implemented the updated copy with keywords on your site and submitted your sitemap to your Google Search Console account, your search visibility and keyword rankings should start to improve.
The time it takes before the optimised web pages appear on page #1 depends on a variety of criteria, including the competition, your content, inbound link profile, previous keyword rankings, on-page keyword mentions, website health and many more.
All SEO Packages include initial site audit and ongoing auditing, keyword research and keyword rank tracking, content and on-page optimisation, Google My Business (GMB) optimisation and monthly reporting. The higher the package, the more time is dedicated to your SEO Campaign.
Yes, as part of your SEO Package, we’ll track a variety of data through tools such as Google Analytics, Google Search Console, Google Tag Manager, Google My Business and Moz (rank tracking software). This includes site visits, contact points, campaign keyword rankings and the search terms customers use to find your site. We’ll also track two of your competitors, keep you up to date on their rankings, and continuously look for ways to outrank them in search results.
No, all our SEO Packages are available on a month-to-month basis. However, we offer a 10% discount on all SEO Packages for clients that sign on for 3, 6 or 12 months. We also provide ad hoc SEO Services at a cost-competitive hourly rate, including SEO Consulting and Strategy.
If you have search terms that you’d like to target, we can look into these terms for you to determine whether they including them in your SEO Plan would be beneficial.
Before we start on the keyword research for your SEO Plan, we’ll discuss the areas of your business that you’d like to focus on, any geographical areas that you’d like to target, as well as your overall business aspirations. We’ll also identify the keywords that you and your competitors are currently ranking for, as well as the search terms that people are using to find your website. With this information we can then identify the most valuable keywords for your SEO Plan.
Backlinks are simply links from one website to a page on another website. They’re an important factor in SEO because Google and other search engines see backlinks as votes which indicate that a specific linked-to page provides valuable, credible and useful content. Web pages with a huge number of links tend to perform well in search results, which means acquiring backlinks is an important aspect of SEO.
No, not all backlinks are equal. Backlinks from websites with a high Domain Authority are more valuable than backlinks from sites with a low Domain Authority. What’s more, some backlinks are ‘follow’ links and others are ‘nofollow’. Follow links are the more valuable of the two (See FAQ below).
A follow link carries link equity whereas a nofollow link doesn’t. Follow links are, therefore, the more advantageous of the two to acquire. However, your site’s backlink profile should appear as natural as possible, so it’s important to have a healthy mix of follow and nofollow links.
When we acquire backlinks to boost your site’s Domain Authority (DA), our focus is on ‘follow’ links. However, it’s important to understand that most business listing/citation sites provide only ‘nofollow’ links so when we list your business on sites like Yelp, these backlinks will usually be nofollow.
Anchor text is the clickable link in a hyperlink that’s used to tell both users and search engines what the linked-to page is about. For example, “Greenwave Digital is an SEO Agency in Brisbane offering a full suite of Search Engine Optimisation services.” The highlighted text is the anchor text. When we implement anchor text we use natural language, usually a phrase which contains the relevant search term and sometimes just the search term as a direct match mention.
Many SEO agencies in Brisbane use exact match anchor text every time when creating internal and external links, however, non-exact-match anchor text should also be used to prevent the copy from appearing spammy and negatively impacting the user experience. Although often overlooked, the user experience your website delivers is important for your SEO and keyword rankings.
Yes, of course! We encourage all clients to take an active interest in their SEO. According to Google best practice, backlinks should be acquired naturally by reaching out to other website owners, so if there’s an opportunity for you to get backlinks to your site from a friend, colleague or business contact, go for it! If you need a hand implementing the link or creating the content, don’t hesitate to contact us.
Broken backlinks are links to pages which no longer exist or have been moved to another URL. Broken backlinks can have a negative impact on SEO, which is why we conduct a backlink audit to identify and then redirect any broken links on your site. During this audit we’ll also look for any broken internal links which need fixing.
Yes, blogs are great for SEO because they add fresh content to your website and that’s something search engines love! We recommend creating a blog article strategy that involves:
- Using your SEO keywords in the article titles and copy naturally
- Creating internal links from blog articles to relevant product and service pages
- Posting new blogs to your GMB and social media accounts.
No, however, via our trusted partners we can coordinate a Google Ads or Facebook/Instagram marketing campaign that ties in with your SEO campaign. If you’re looking for a digital marketing agency in Brisbane that specialises in paid search and social media marketing, we’re happy to recommend suitable service providers.
Yes, we provide SEO consulting to digital marketing agencies and individual businesses. Whether you have a project that you need help with or you could simply use some professional advice from an experienced SEO Consultant in person or over the phone, we’re here to help.
Yes, however, we don’t recommend changing any keywords in your SEO Plan before the Month 6 review. This provides adequate time to optimise specific pages for specific keywords and determine whether it’s advantageous to continue working on these keywords. Additionally, it also gives us time to identify other keywords which may be a better focus for your business.
SEO Campaign Timeline
How long does it take to rank on Google? That’s the big question when it comes to SEO and the timelines that SEO agencies give their clients. Unlike most SEO agencies in Brisbane, we don’t wait until the third or fourth month of your SEO campaign before we start on keyword research and the content strategy — that all begins in the first month of your campaign so you get the best returns on your investment.
Starting with an initial site audit (content analysis, mobile-friendliness, technical testing, backlink health check, etc.) that provides an overview of your website, we’ll then start identifying the best keywords and search terms to use in your SEO campaign, which includes identifying keywords your competitors are currently ranking for.
By the end of Month 1, we’ll also set up tracking via Google Analytics (and Google Tag Manager when needed), connect your site to Google Search Console, and help you claim ownership of your Google My Business (GMB) account. We’ll also give you an overview of your current keyword rankings as a benchmark report for your SEO Campaign.
At the start of Month 2, we’ll start creating SEO-optimised content for the targeted pages on your website. Before updating your website with the new copy, we’ll seek your approval. Once you’ve approved the copy, we can update your website, resubmit your .xml sitemap to Google Search Console and request reindexing. This ensures your updated web pages are crawled sooner rather than later and will start to appear in Search Engine Results Pages (SERPs). By the end of the month we’ll also create new pages for Month 1 & Month 2’s blog articles.
During Month 3, we’ll monitor the progress of your SEO campaign but much of the focus for this month will be on optimising your Google My Business (GMB) profile. This is especially important for local businesses that want to appear in search results for a query that contains a product or service and a location. For example, ‘plumbers Albion’ or ‘digital marketing agency Brisbane’. To boost your GMB presence and help you get into the ‘Local Pack’, we’ll create Products/Services listings, add photos, create a Google short name to help you generate reviews, and ensure all your information is correct and up to date.
Months 4 & 5
In Months 4 & 5, we’ll review the progress of your SEO Campaign and determine the next steps to take. This could involve updating the SEO-optimised copy on the targeted web pages, adding more written content to these pages, adding content to non-targeted pages and creating internal links between the pages, or even creating new, more targeted pages. Our activities during Months 4 & 5 depend on the progress of your campaign and the work that needs to be done!
In Month 6 we conduct our first major SEO Campaign review. We’ll review the keywords in your SEO Plan to determine if we need to make any changes. If there hasn’t been a notable uplift in rankings for a particular keyword, we may suggest replacing it with a more suitable keyword.
We don’t recommend changing any keywords in your SEO Plan before the Month 6 review. This provides adequate time to optimise specific pages for specific keywords and determine whether it’s advantageous to continue working on these keywords. Additionally, it also gives us time to identify other keywords which may be a better focus for your business.
